Yucatán Trip Update

June 13th, 2010

Dear friends,

God is good! And God is working!Thank you so much for your prayers on our behalf during our trip to the Yucatan ministry last week. We were blessed with safety and good health throughout the trip and were also blessed to spend a little bit of time with some ministry friends in Monterrey, Mexico during our layovers. If you’re on Facebook, you can see more photos in our album “Yucatan Trip”.

The Ministry at El Palomar Ranch Children’s Home in Campeche, Mexico, and the leadership there have opened wide the door of ministry to us. There are many needs that we believe the Lord has equipped us to fill, and there are many opportunities for the future, both with the Children’s Home and with the group of local churches in the area. Please continue to help us pray about this opportunity. We will need to give them an answer sometime in July.

This week we are packing our things, turning in our rental house in Hermosillo, Mexico, and driving back to the States. We have a few scattered meetings scheduled between now and early July when we will be spending three weeks with our sending church in Greenville, SC. Once we have had a chance to thoroughly discuss these new ministry opportunities with our Pastor, Johnny Franco, we will be sharing our plans with you all post haste and look forward to updating you personally, when possible, about what God is doing with our family.

If you have not read our May newsletter, it is available online in 2 pages at www.tkhornor.com As of July 15, our only telephone number will be our cell phone 520.495.9023. And our email of course is tkhornor@gmail.com.

Thank you for your continued prayers for us as we travel the US once again with 3 lively youngsters and a trailer in tow. We look forward to seeing many of you on this trip. God bless you all.

Mother’s Day 2010

May 11th, 2010

Here’s something you may or may not know about Mexico: in Mexico, Mother’s Day is always May 10, regardless of the day of the week it falls on. So this year, we got to celebrate twice!

We had an eventful beginning to an exciting Mother’s Day. Tré (18 mo.) woke us up by slamming the lid to the potty after having deposited there another unsuspecting object. Once we had that situation well in hand and sanitized, we headed downstairs for a breakfast of banana bread (made by Martha). In the process of serving our mobile dishwasher tipped over and we had a few casualty glasses. Oh, the excitement! After breakfast and the task of dressing the entire family for the day we endeavored to take a Mother’s Day photo before everyone soiled their clothes. As usual the first picture turned out better than the other 5. Funny how that is usually the norm in family picture taking.

Later in the day, Daddy volunteered to make lunch (his famous spaghetti), and he and Kirsi had an impromptu science experiment in the process.

Let’s just say the garlic bread wasn’t the only thing that got burned; while Daddy was distracted by another dump of the dishwasher, a kitchen towel a little too close to the burner ignited. Thank the Lord that Kirsi’s quick exclamation and Tap’s quick action saved us from more than just the loss of a towel.

Kirsi and Tré dutifully licked the bowl and beaters and spatula for the chocolate pie dessert.

Karina and Martha helped set the table while we called Grandma to sing to her on the phone. All in all a wonderful family effort for a delicious Mother’s Day Meal! And after lunch the boys did dishes while the girls made Mother’s Day cards. Daddy also bought me some lovely flowers! I’m so thankful for the family God has given me. Each of them is unique and a unique joy in my life!

Church news

April 24th, 2010

I Chronicles 16 - Give thanks unto the LORD…make His deeds known his deeds among the people… Declare His glory among the heathen; His marvelous works among all nations… O give thanks unto the LORD; for He is good.

We are rejoicing in the recent marriage of one of the couples at our church. Twenty years ago, as unsaved youth, Jose Manuel and Maria chose to live together as man and wife. Four children later and now with a new life in Christ, they celebrated their twentieth anniversary with a civil and a church wedding! The ceremony was a blessing and a great testimony to their family and friends. We are so proud of them and their desire to please the Lord!

Pastor Isaac Luna has been leading us on survey trip of the Old Testament on Sunday mornings for the past several weeks. We have enjoyed seeing the pictures of Christ and God’s design for redemption as they are played out in the Old Testament. We have also been encouraged by the character of God as displayed in His working on behalf of His people down through history. What blessings we enjoy as children of Christ when we set apart time to fellowship with other believers and study His Word together!

Please keep praying for our church’s mission trip to Guatamala, Central America, June 11-28 to work with Pastor Norberto Chan. He is planning that our group will help his church an evangelistic campaign into a new area near his church. Each member of the team will need the power of Christ as they go, for we know it is He who will prepare the hearts and open the doors and do the work of grace in the souls of Guatemala.

Carne Asada Dinner 2010

April 21st, 2010

L to R, Back to Front: Victor, Francisca, Angeles, Timoteo, Luis Miguel, Alejandra, Abigail, Bridget, Noe, Juan Carlos, Natanael

On Monday night the faculty and staff of IPE hosted a dinner, as we do every year, in honor of this year’s graduates (pictured above). The dinner and fellowship time was followed with a time of testimonies from each of the graduates and then a message by the college President from Deuteronomy 1:31.

“And in the wilderness, where thou hast seen how that the LORD thy God bare thee, as a man doth bear his son, in all the way that ye went, until ye came into this place.”

The focus of the message was that God has tenderly brought us through the desert as a time of preparation for the battles that are to come. He brought us here to help us die to self, to know Him better, to follow Him closely, and to grow to the point that we have a greater desire to see Him work and a greater desire to see His glory. All that He has gently led us through in the desert has worked to prepare us for fighting His battles and claiming the territory He has for us to claim. This is the case, not only for those 11 students who will graduate in a month, but also for each and every one of us who calls God “Father”.

God loves us enough to teach us new things in ways that will strengthen us. He wants to fellowship with us undistracted by the world. He wants us to desire His presence and glory. He wants us to praise Him for His works, remind our children of them and look forward to Him working in the future! The desert is not the end, but the training ground for the Divine assignment that will be our life work! Praise God for the time in the desert!

Baptistm - fruit for our labors

March 16th, 2010

We rejoiced to baptize two believers on Sunday March 7th! Paula is a new believer from the neighborhood of “La Internacional” where we have been visiting recently in our outreach program. Paula was led to Christ and is being discipled by Mine, the ladies dorm superervisor at IPE. Martha was also baptized, having been a Christian for some time, but coming to the realization that she had never been baptized by immersion as the Scriptures teach!

And you don’t HAVE to have a baptismal to baptize! Our kiddie pool worked just fine! :-)

Monthly Prayer Meeting

March 15th, 2010

The first Friday of each month, the Hermosillo fellowship of churches gets together for a special prayer meeting. Last month it was at our church “La Fe”. This month it was the first time for it to be held at “Esperanza Viva”, the church that our church helped to start a little over a year ago. We rejoiced to see over 200 people in attendance! What a blessing to be able to share our blessings and our burdens with our brethren!
